Bead bracelets are one of the earliest jewellery pieces of civilization. In early caveman excavations strings of stone or shell beads are found in many places. It shows the early notion of talismanic adornment which is a characteristic of our human psyche. This still exists today in the notion of meaning and occasion we associate with our personal jewellery. It may be the simplest , least expensive item we have, but the personal association we attatch to the piece determines its value.

The Rinopai Silver Bead bracelets are a throw back to the notion of collecting pebbles and shells , drilling small holes and stringing the items on threads. It is simple, but the simplicity is its strength that allows the bracelet to always looks great when worn.

Pure silver beads strung on polybraid, available in many lengths. Personalised options available.

In stock now!

With engraved text from Romantic poet J Keats, this piece is sterling silver with red garnet on a sterling silver chain. Text engraved is from the poem featured in the recent film ‘Bright Star’ by n.z film maker Jane Campion

Engraved Text reads,

Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art —
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,

Bright Star by J Keats

Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art —
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like Nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors —
No — yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever — or else swoon to death.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bright_star,_would_I_were_stedfast_as_thou_art

Recently I have enjoyed the challange of making some special commissions for customers.

Mel’s engagement ring.

14ct white gold band , 9ct red gold setting, champagne diamond.

The photos do not do this ring justice, the combination of white/red gold with the dark champagne diamond are really soft, and the organic nature of the seed pod setting, make this subtle and unique combination.

Rachel’s necklace

the brief for this variation on the Aotearoa necklace involved some special place references as well as other symbolic references. To achieve this I developed a couple of new patterns.” View of Rangitoto’ and ‘View of Aoraki from the Tasman’.

Cathie’s Necklace:

the brief here is a necklace that celebrates a 21st birthday, so of course a key made from silver and 9ct gold, a small gold cross and a tag that celebrates special places.

Kathys ring

This is a variation on the ruby and rata ring design with a tsavorite used as the stone instead of the ruby. Tsavorite comes from Tanzania, a type of garnet it has a strong ‘bling’ green colour , and was brought to international attention in the 1970′s when Tiffany used the stone in many of its signature pieces .

One of my favourite rings is the “ruby and rata” ring. This is one of my early ring designs. It is a difficult ring to make as there is alot of heat involved in soldering all the pieces in place. What I like about this process is that the rings always come out a little different. There always is a random element which I think give these rings a distinctive look. For the most recent rings I was able to source rubies direct from Bangkok which is the main cutting and distribution centre for Burmese rubies. The colour is bright and vibrant and do a lot to bring out the colour of the golds. If ever you are fortunate enough to see a rata flower in the bush it has this imapact , as amongst all the greens and browns, there is this single vibrant red/orange pohutukawa like flower.

The ruby and rata rings are 9ct coloured golds on a sterling base with a .33 ct burmese ruby. Variations made to order include, gold or platinum versions, and use of different gems.
